|Awakening Gallery Original Paintings by Raphael Labro|
|Exhibitions - Paintings|
Before Adam and Eve, there were Goddesses nurturing via the Neolithic temples. Their secrets waiting to be shared. With mankind's arrival, the Goddesses retreated to the unseen, waiting until now… This is the vision that Labro has captured with such vivid brilliance.
These Goddesses from the past meditating in wait through the centuries, now awakening. Melded with the hues of all that exists. In these pieces, we see their wisdom unfold as they, and the artist, invite us to enter the future. From their "REBIRTH", Labro takes us further to their "AWAKENING."
Raphael Labro celebrates the feminine symbol in his earthly to universal contemporary neo expressionist paintings with bright colours that invite the audience to a journey that transcends the present into a future that has no boundaries, that is reawakened, renewed and reenergized. The Goddesses are depicted as round, fertile Earth mother messengers. With Labro’s artistic eye to intensify the form and blending it into the surrounding landscape, thus showing the bond between humankind and it's environment. Reminding us of our culturally profound past, Labro presents a future that melds the earth with the universe, using colours and symbols for a world that is alive, an environment flourishing and a culture that embraces the natural gifts that they are endowed and surrounded with.
Labro has paid careful attention to the detail of the geometric perfection and beauty of these pieces. We see these stone goddesses at one with the earth and aligned with the sky. As are the temples that aligned not only to the sun and moon, but to the Orion constellation. As part of this groundbreaking exhibition, Raphael has invited as a very honoured guest The Honourable Doctor Hubert Zeitlmair, President of the Malta Discovery Prehistoric Research Foundation, to exhibit his reconstructed model of the Mnajdra temple complex at a scale of 1:50 cut from hundreds of individual limestone slabs. The archaeological findings of Hon. Dr. Zeitlmair, along with his wife and partner Dagmar Claire, work in perfect harmony with the artistic vision of Raphael, who draws his artistic inspiration of the Goddesses from the energy of the temple.
The tablets contain unknown before signs made up of intricate constructed syllables. Traced most closely to an ancient form of Sanskrit, suggesting the writings must have an age of at least 32,000 years - the Atlantean Era.
A special highlight of the exhibition is Labro’s ”Meditating Goddess”, which was honoured with the Special President Award (Eloquence of the Female Figure) at the 7th Malta International (105 Nations) Art Biennale in August 2007. Here we see the Goddess Being, serene in thought, the perfect symbol of a fertile Mother Earth, bringing a future that is echoed in the Neolithic temples of Malta, where the landscape blazes with sumptuous hues of reds and blues, highlighting the burning gold and graceful colours of Hagar Qim.
The dynamic combination of the Hon. Dr. Zeitlmair's findings and Raphael's cosmic epiphanies realised on canvas, make for a stunning journey. A true awakening for the viewer, as the reality of the past embraces the coming future.
